Photo. Travel highlights in 2007. The main photo is taken by Chris Tharp, USA, on his tour in Laos.

Our photos are not intended to be for decoration. We put strong efforts to tell amazing stories and inspire through photos. They should be associated with the stories and give them extra punch. It isn’t easy to catch the right moments, but sometimes we are able to publish photos in travel tales and articles which tells more than thousands words.

Sometimes the photos stand for its own, and sometimes we can tell stories directly out from the photos. We have also caught some big moments with our video camera.

Each year our number of freelance journalists grows. Eager travellers have always an interesting story to tell.

It’s amazing how travelling can be. Our highlights in 2007 are (see our website: www.TravelExplorations.com):

The worst motorcycle in Laos!
Chris Tharp on the road explores the last frontier in South East Asia! On a 3-days tour on a bike in Laos in February 2007 Chris from US encountered many challenges, especially trouble with his motorcycle. Anyway driving around on a motorcycle in Laos is a wonderful way to experience the landlocked country. As Lonely Planet describes the country on its website: Snaking rivers, lush jungle, hectic markets and the UNESCO-listed Plain of Jars. Lonely Planet considers Laos as the highlight of Southeast Asia.

The Guns of Central America!
This bizarre trip, from Havana to San Salvador, took me through five levels of Central American gun culture.

This story is written by Alex Welsh from Spain.

Antigua, Guatemala - Experiencing the town envelops other senses besides sight and sound!
Antigua is the cultural centre in Guatemala. It’s full of beauty and charm! The richness lies in the creativity of its native population, especially when it comes to their skilful weaving of carpets and traditional costumes. We had a memorable experience admiring the town’s colours and architecture, observing massive volcano peaks, attending the largest festival in Central America - Semana Santa, touring around on endless greens stretches, and enjoying Antigua’s brown treasure, the town’s delicate coffee.

The megalithic temples on Malta - the oldest free standing stone structures in the world!
The Megalithic Temples on the islands Malta and Gozo, dating from 5500 years ago, are the oldest free standing stone structures in the world. These temples there are much older than the Pyramids of Egypt and Stonehenge, and their secrets are still well hidden. Previous year I explored the temples Hagar Qim and Mnajdra on Malta, and now it was time for me to explore the two temples of Ggantij on Gozo.

Kastelli at Pattijoki, Finland - Exploration of the huge stone circle!
Into the deep pine forest in almost nowhere, I and my guide finally reached the circled shaped Stone Age ruin of Kastelli at Pattijoki in Finland! It’s located around 80 kilometres north for the city Oulu. On a small long ridge we could observe a huge circle shape constructed of small stones. Around in the area there were fireplaces, big holes for storage of food and remains of a small village.

These articles and photos provided by our excellent freelance journalists. In the New Year we are committed to continue publishing amazing stories from journeys around the world. The world is bigger than you think! You just have to open your eyes more and venture some few steps further!

HAPPY NEW YEAR FOR 2008! A year when hopes and dreams will come true by travelling!

Stein Morten Lund, 31 December 2007
