Galdhøpiggen, Norway - Multicultural social event on the top of the roof of Norway 2009!

2009-05-18
The Norwegian Directorate of Integration and Diversity (IMDi) and The Red Cross are inviting 2469 people from multicultural Norway to join them at Norway`s tallest mountain, Mt. Galdhøpiggen, Galdhogpiggen, on the 12th and 13th of June 2009. Anyone who wishes to support multicultural Norway is welcome to participate.

The aim of the event is to know each other better, establish new networks and share fantastic experiences in the outdoors, according the website TilTopps: www.tiltops.no.

The participations are offered five alternative walks. Two of which start from Spiterstulen, two at Juvasshytta and one walk in the towncentre in Lom:

• Lom culture tour: suitable for people with limited physical capabilities and families with small children.

• Spiterstulen activity walk: suitable for people who may not be in good physical condition and follows a route as far to the top as each individual desires.

• To The Top: goes right to the top and down again. Suitable for people in good physical condition. At a normal pace and normal weather conditions, this route takes 8-9 hours (4-6 hours ascent and 2-3 hours descent). Also suitable for children used to walks in the outdoors.

Routes are marked and the Red Cross’s Search and Rescue Corps will have first aid stations along the way.

• Glacier Walk: starts at Juvasshytta, goes to Galdhøpiggen and down to Spiterstulen. Consists of walking over a glacier, tied to your group by ropes and being lead by a professional terrain guide.

This is a great walk for those who may not be in good shape but would like to reach the top. Please be aware that participants choosing this guided walk will be asked to pay NOK 100.

• Skiactivity and play/walk at Jauvasshytta: With this choice you can go skiing, play in the snow or explore the environment around Juvasshytta.

Participations can either participate on the 12th or 13th of June 2009.
