Best of ExplorersWeb 2007 - Award Winner is K2 West Face!

2008-01-01
The world famous website for expedition news, ExplorersWeb, has covered nearly thousand expeditions in 2007. The staff write on its website: it's difficult to choose the best, as they all contributed in their own way, sharing their story - their very soul in fact - with us and the world.

ExplorersWeb publishes independent, non-commercial guides and news on mountaineering, ocean sailing, polar treks and other upcoming fields. The company is based in Manhattan, New York, USA.

According to the staff in ExplorersWeb regarding expeditions: "there are those who linger in our minds long after their final debrief".

ExplorersWeb has chosen 8 expeditions who have contributed in an extraordinary way to the Spirit of Adventure in 2007. The Russian K2 west face team is the winner of the 2007 ExplorersWeb's awards for showing the world the very essence in the Spirit of Adventure.

K2 - The Savage Mountain
Is K2 the most challenging climb in the world? K2 is the second highest mountain in the world. It is in the Karakoram section of the Himalayas between Pakistan and China. The mountain is 8,611 metres (28,251 feet) high. It is believed that the mountain is harder to climb than Mount Everest because of its very bad weather. K2 is also much higher than the area around it when compared to Everest. K2 is nicknamed "The Savage Mountain" because of this.
