The Roof Of The World - Tibet
Tibet, the
very name evokes feelings of awe and mystery. A land of ancient culture, awesome
landscapes, artistic monasteries and centuries-old caravan trails, Tibet is a
destination out of the ordinary.
Famed as the Roof of the World, the Tibet autonomous Region of China lies on
a plateau at an average elevation of 4000m. It is bounded by the Kunlun
Mountains to the north and the Himalayas to the south. Tibet covers an area of
1.2 million sq. km. and has a population of 2.3 million.
Bhutan
The Kingdom of Druk Yul or Bhutan is
known as the dragon kingdom and lies deep in the heart of the Himalayas, nestled
between Tibet and India. Within its small area, Bhutan offers a variety of
climates from the hot and humid jungles of the southern foothills to the more
temperate central region and to the icy-cold snowcapped peaks in the north. The
truly amazing small chunk of Bhutanese land varies from 200 to almost 7500
meter.
Sikkim
The land of mystic splendor. Sikkim
offers the magical feel of Himalayan fairy-tale lands. It is a wonderful place
of hidden valleys, splendid monasteries, snow-fed lakes and mountain landscapes
covered with flowers and evergreen forests.
Darjeeling, the Queen of the Hills rises high with the majestic Kanchenjunga
towering over it. The toy-train, the tea plantations and the sunrise are some of
the marvels this tiny hill-station offers.
The
population in the Himalaya region comprises various groups of different
races which are further divided into different castes. The distinction in castes
and ethnicity is understood more easily with a view of customary layout of the
population.
