The mystery of Paul McCartney in the Beatles - The death conspirancy!

2009-09-17
All the rumours in the 1960s about that Paul McCartney had died, must be one of the greatest rock and roll conspiracies of all time! Since I heard the radio programme "Is Paul McCartney dead?" of Yoav Kutner in the late 70s, I have wondered about all the mysterious clues The Beatles plant in their music and inside their album covers. Why did the Beatles do that?

The Beatles were an English rock and pop group formed in Liverpool in 1960. It became one of the most commercially successful and critically acclaimed bands in the history of popular music.

Paul is dead now. Miss him, miss him, sings John Lennon in the song .....

It`s 40 years ago since the rumours started about that Paul McCartney was dead. Still some people today believe the old Beatle is dead.

Recently a complete box with remastered Beatles albums was released, and the interest for the world`s greates pop group grow to big heights again. It wakes up the memories about the mentioned mystery.

I still listen to the radio programme which I have recorded on tape. It`s so fascinating and convincing. Even though I did`t believe Paul McCartney was dead, I find the revealing information quite shocking and it`s still haunting me.

Kutner was awarded several prizes for his programs, among them were for "Paul McCartney is Dead" in 1978, a prize from the Israel Defense Forces Radio.

Is Paul McCartney really dead? As we all can see today, Paul McCartney is in good shape and living a highly active life. His is still working with music. When I see how Paul McCartney live to today I can`t not in my wildest fantasy imagine that someone claim his died in the 60s.

Theories that he was killed in a car crash and then replaced by a look-a-like, sounds absurb for me. Who could be perfect to replace a genious as Paul McCartey both as a look-a-like, composer and multi player of instruments? It`s only one Paul McCartney.

The website "Officially Pronounced Dead" (www.Paulisdead.co.uk) ask the question: Did the Beatles then plant small, subtle clues within their album covers and lyrics to 'break the news gently' to their fans?

"Officially Pronounced Dead" (www.Paulisdead.co.uk) was released on the 2nd July in 2000.Earlier the site was called 'Paul is Dead - The Conclusive Evidence'. The establisher is Michael Harbidge from England. His website presents 376 so called documented clues.

For me I find it more interesting to answer to the question why the Beatles put all the mysterious signs in the music and inside their album covers? Was it a commercial stunt, dramatically physical changes for Paul McCartney, did the group do it for fun, was it because of conflicts in the group, or did it all have a deeper meaning? As far as I know Paul McCartney and the other members of the Beatles have never commented these things official. Paul McCartney and Ringo Star are still alive, but it`s seem to be unlikely that they ever will give any information to solve the big mystery.

A big joke or a big hoax?
According to the website "Officially Pronounced Dead", rumours of Paul being dead were made aware by the group in February 1967 when the Beatles Monthly magazine ran a "False Rumour" article about it so there's every possibility that they saw this and decided to have a little fun.

A claim that a hoax was perpetrated by The Beatles themselves, either as a joke or to stimulate record sales, has been denied by the band members.

Several books have been written about the mystery.

Yoav Kutner was born in Jerusalem, Israel in 18 May 1954. According to Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_is_dead): "Paul is dead" is an urban legend alleging that Paul McCartney of the English rock band The Beatles died in 1966 and was secretly replaced by a look-alike. Rumours began in September 1969 when American students published articles claiming that clues to McCartney's death could be found among the lyrics and artwork of The Beatles' recordings, and rapidly grew to become an international phenomenon. It was rebutted by a contemporary interview with McCartney published in November 1969 but continues to attract some interest. Israelsk radioprogram laget av Juav Kutner, oversatt og tilrettelagt av Knut Røe for "Ungdommens Radioavis" på NRK i 1978.
