See the video published by United Nations (UN) on 20th March 2026. On the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, UN Human Rights Chief Volker Türk calls out the forces pushing back progress on racial justice, and makes the case for why the fight is far from over.
As I see it: After the final whistle, the fight against racism must continue. Reminded by the message from United Nations (UN): "Be a champion for human rights. Join us the in standing against racism." Through the glimpses I have seen during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and through my travels around the world, one message has become very clear to me: Football should bring people together, regardless of their skin colour, nationality, religion or background.
There must be no place for racism, discrimination or hatred, in football or anywhere else in society. This is also deeply personal for us in Norway.
22nd July will forever be remembered as the day our country was struck by brutal acts of terrorism. We must never forget, and we must never remain silent when hatred threatens our shared humanity.
