Pink Floyd Quiz - How much do you know?

Dark side of the moon - Pink Floyd - Quiz

My quiz (circa 40 questions) allows you to test your knowledge of Pink Floyd and their and music. I hope to engage friends, colleagues and other who might be interested in a fun way. Most questions need basic knowledge to answer, but some few can be little bit challenging.

Introduction to quiz about Pink Floyd
In recent time I have updated myself about the band through magazines and websites as Mojo, Wikipedia, Pink Floyd`s official website and other websites. On 11the April 2023 I am going to attend a Roger Waters` concert at Telenor Arena at Fornebu in Oslo, Norway. That also inspired me to find out more about the bands` history, music, members and more. The phrase "the dark side of the moon" is used to describe something mysterious and unknown. I think the band is like a "dark side of the moon" in itself. For me Pink Floyd`s music was like a puzzle putting pieces together: I really needed to dig deeper into their divine universe to understand them better, and get some more out of their music.

How can I understand Pink Floyd?
My "discovery" of Pink Floyd was like being transported to another world - a new kind of dimension. The band is for me undefinedly in some ways. Their psychedelic sound revolution turned me into long journey - not completed yet. Their lyrics are symbolic, metaphorical, cryptical, complex and sometimes extremely sophisticated. They are also strong political, social and psychical. That`s for sure: they have something they want to express - transmitting messages to the world. In Pink Floyd`s early beginning their songs goes in every direction, almost floating without an end. It`s fantastic to hear their song, and some of them you can sing along with.

Their lyrics are weird, disturbing, sad, depressing, optimistic, funny and sometimes impossible to understand. I think Pink`s Floyd`s music has a characteristic of modern art since it opens for many interpretations. Making music is an art form all its own, and these songs……….I really like to sing along the song this places the first brick in the wall. For example in the song “Another Brick In The Wall" when the lyrics goes like this: "We don't need no education". Is it a gramma error in or is it just a symbolic trick? Metaphor? What does “You're just another brick in the wall" mean?

Pink Floyd sales statistics
By looking at the figures for Pink Floyd`s selling of albums world wide, I understand they have a big influence of people. Since Pink Floyd was formed, they have earned recognition for their psychedelic or space rock music, and, later, their progressive rock music. The group have sold over 250 million records worldwide, including 75 million in the United States. Also their concerts are well known for being very spectacular, or shall I say “beyond reality”?

The most known Pink Floyd album is “The Dark Side Of The Moon”. It has sold over 50 million copies worldwide. The album became one of the best-selling albums of all time. Dark Side of the Moon has endured through the years because it is such a well-written and thought-out concept album. After its release, it went to number one on the Billboard chart for one week, but it ended up staying on the Billboard charts for a consecutive 741 weeks (or just over 14 years). This feat would make the album one of the top 25 best-selling albums ever.

The Wall is also one of the best-known concept albums world wide. With over 30 million copies sold, it is the second best-selling album in the band's catalogue (behind The Dark Side of the Moon), the best selling double-album of all time, and one of the best-selling albums of all time overall (source: Wikipedia).

Intricate musicianship
How can I truly understand Pink Floyd`s music? It`s as mentioned like a "the dark side of the moon". Perhaps I should try harder to read between the lines? I think it isn`t meant that listeners should understand everything. At least trying to understand little bit more I suggest that you get more insight in the background to the members in the band. Unless you ask the members, you will never know for sure what they intended. Even though you don't understand all it doesn't mean that you can't enjoy it. Wheather I understand Pink Floyd or not, I really love them.

Additional information
The psychedelic sounds of The Dark Side of the Moon definitely had influences on counterculture at the time. The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame credits Pink Floyd with carving out new spaces in the industry: “Pink Floyd were the architects of two major music movements – psychedelic space-rock and blues-based progressive rock – and became known for their biting political, social and emotional commentary”; a great balance of new sounds – mainly developed through live performances during their 16-date UK tour – and hard topics that weren’t explored much in their time.
