During the dark winter months in northern Norway, it occurs a remarkable
naturally phenomenon, which is also called the Aurora Borealis. It flames
across the heavens in varying intensity and form.
The recently found "northern light" on Mars is different from the Northern
Light in Norway in one way: on March the phenomenon occurs by equator and on our
planet it occurs by poles.
European Space Agency`s website: ESA.
Seeing the Northern Lights blazing across the winter night is an
extraordinary and mystical experience. Northern Lights is caused by charged
particles from the sun that get caught in the Earth's magnetic field, causing
air molecules and atoms to light up. During winter the Northern Lights can
sometimes be seen across southern Norway as well.

The dark time, or
the long, dark Polar Night, lasts from 30th November to 12th January. There is
only a twilight-dusk type of light (the blue light) for a few hours during the
middle of the day. This does not mean that it becomes totally dark, however.
The experience of the winter with the uniqueness of the light, the northern
lights and snow is fantastic. Especially beautiful is the blue light southwards,
just before it becomes dark. Go to Norway to see for yourself, and later one
time in the long future, you probably can take an adventure tour to the space to
observe the Northern Light on Mars too.
