Moss, Norway, Mossesundet - Out in the blue at the Strait of Moss!

2010-06-06
Moss,Mossesundet,Solnedgang,Jeløya,blå solnedgangBlue colour is usual considered as cold, but the sunset on Monday 31 May 2010 in Moss was not cold at all. In the beautiful summer weather, I ran through the Moss forest, past Molbekktjernet and further down to the shoreline at Mossesundet, the Strait of Moss. In front of me it revealed an inferno in blue.

The explanation for this phenomenon is that the blue colour of the sky is spreading by the sunlight in the molecules in the atmosphere. Down in the water is blue light is scattered by the particles, so the blue light rays hit the eye from many directions.

The picture was taken around 20.30 O`clock with the camera on my phone. On nice weather days with blue sky, sunset is usually red, but this evening turned out totally blue for me. Even the sun was blue! The day after I observed the sunset from another place in the direction of Mossesundet, Moss Strait. Then parts of the sky were glowing red, and it looked almost like the sky was burning.

Moss is on the sunny side of the Oslo Fjord. Here you can experience beautiful scenery, beautiful beaches, excellent fishing opportunities, interesting historic sites, a lively cultural life, art exhibitions, concerts, pubs, bars, discos, cafes and restaurants.

Bathing is very popular in Moss. Throughout the summer, the temperatures vary from 18 to 24 degrees in the water and you can choose from 48 beaches.

Moss offers an extensive network of roads and trails. Map can be purchased at Moss Regional Tourist Office. For instance, the coastal path it well signed and follows the coastline throughout the Moss to Akershus boundary. Another option is to take a tour on Søndre Jeløy, South Jeløy. The whole family can join this trip, either on foot or by bike. It is also nice to take a boat trip in the Mossesundet, Moss Strait, or around Jeløya.

Moss is located only 60 to 70 kilometres south-east of Oslo. It's easy to get there. You can drive on four lane highway on the E6 or by train, plane, ferry and bus.

Most of all, it`s a great pleasure to drink the cold beer Mosseøl while enjoying the beautiful sunset over the Mossesundet, Strait of Moss.
