Experience the heartbeating city of Liverpool. With its top football, rocking Merseyside music, joyful Irish pubs and wonderful people, the city will always be a part of travellers heart and soul.

Liverpool City more than just football!

2006-01-09
There are plenty of attractions and opportunities for activities in the beautiful city Liverpool in northern England. This city is first and foremost famous for football and popmusic. Here you can watch the world`s best football team Liverpool F.C. playing on their homeground Anfield Road, and you can walk in the footprints of the the world`s best pop group ever, the legandary Beatles. And there are so much more to really turn you on!

Another great adventures are visiting the beautiful seaside Albert Dock and crossing the river Mersey which Gerry and the Pacemakers sing about in the song Ferry cross the Mersey. The absolute best thing about going to Liverpool is meeting the very friendly people there.

From the bottom of my heart I can confirm that it`s true what Gerry and the Pacemakers sing about in the songs You`ll Never Walk Alone and Ferry Cross The Mersey: "We`ll never turn you away!" Especially when you visit pubs as Flanagan`s Apple Pub and Albert Pub, you can sing along with locals and experience an unique atmosphere that goes straight into your heart! By the way: Liverpool will be the European Capital of Culture 2008.

The people in Liverpool have real guts. An example of that is how fast and beautiful they rebuild the city after it was seriously bombed by the Germans`during the Second World War.

How it is to go to Liverpool is perfectly described in the song "Ferry 'cross The Mersey", which is about Liverpool and the people there.

One of the top Liverpool beat groups of the early 1960s, Gerry and the Pacemakers, had a big hit with this song. The lyric in song goes like this:
So ferry 'cross the Mersey
and always take me there
the place I love.
People around ev'ry corner
they seem to smile and say:
we don't care what your name is boy
we'll never turn you away!

You can also admire Liverpool's cultural and architectural treasures as Croxteth Hall, Country Park, Knowsley Hall, Safari Park, Speke Hall, and Strawberry Fields as the Beatles sings so beautiful about.

Take also your time to explore the Albert Dock complex, which is a beautifully restored dockside warehouses. Now it`s a home to a pulsating life with bars, cafes, restaurants, shops and other unique visitor attractions including The Beatles Story museum. For they who have extra time it`s enjoyable to explore Liverpool City`s regions as Halton Knowsley, Southport and St. Helens Wirral.

When it comes to football (soccer), it`s really big clashes between Liverpool and its city rival Everton, who also plays in the top division, the Premier Leauge. One time at the pub Albert Pub beside Liverpool`s homeground Anfield Road, I met a nice old  lady, who was a fanatic Liverpool supporter. She was dressed up from top to toe with fancy supporter effects. She told me that she had a husband and seven sons, who all were Everton supporters. Pure lady!

I said to her quite frankly: it must be something wrong with the way you have brought up your sons! They have probably been under big influence by their father. Anyway she had learned to cope with it, and managed to keep her family staying together. It`s nothing she can change now. Everybody has to follow their heart!

Football is real serious in Liverpool! Feelings are strong. For some inhabitants it`s a kind of "religion". It lightens up many people`s hard daily life. Accompanied by the famous Liverpool song You'll Never Walk Alone, it gives hopes for the future.

The song You'll Never Walk Alone was a number one hit in the pop for charts for over 40 years ago. When people here this song by Gerry and the Pacemakers they get shivers down their spine and tears in the eyes. This group was one of the top Liverpool beat groups of the early 1960s. It followed the Beatles and many other British music groups on the "British Invasion" of 1964.

For some people You`ll Never Walk Alone is just a football song as Liverpool supporters sing. For they who know the background for the song, it means so much more. The song is a part of all Liverpool supporters life. Since Liverpool has been so successfull in football, this song has been spread around the world, and there are not only Liverpool supporters who sing this song. Actually it`s a song for everybody, and so it`s Liverpool City.

Coming up more about Liverpool City with information, stories and photos.
