In the presence of the Big Five in Tanzania, Africa!

2006-05-15
You will see the big five, said the guide. He meant the elephant, lion, rhino, buffalo, and leopard. After I had admired ten thousand of zebras, gnus, and other herds of animals in Serengeti, my pulse started to beat faster; would it be possible to observe an elephant, or maybe two? At that point I took terrible wrong. Soon we drove through herds of these majestic animals.

We are on a two weeks safari in Tanzania, in the bushes around Lake Manyara, over Serengeti, and deep down in the volcanic crater Ngorongoro, the three most important areas for safaris.

And the expectations for observing the Big Five are stronger than the travel fever before leaving home. Now we are here, and the Big Five are living in the landscape which we move around in.

A part of this article contains an excerpt from the Norwegian adventurer Per Henriksen`s story about his wonderful journey in Tanzania. He is the editor and journalist in the well known Norwegian travel guide Reiseliv.no.

Per Henriksen`s  journey went through the game parks of the Serengeti, literally meaning, "endless plain" and the Ngorongoro Crater - home to over 25000 animals including elephants, buffalos, hyenas, jackals, wildebeests, zebras, rhino, hippos and more.

Take a walk on the wild life. Tanzania is just what associates with Africa: exotic wildlife and great opportunities for safaris. Safari is an exciting way to experience the wildlife without risking life and limb on the African Continent.

Tanzania is also the site of Africa's highest mountain, Kilimanjaro; the continent's largest wildlife sanctuary, Selous; Africa's deepest lake, Tanganyika, Ngorongoro Crater, the Great Rift Valley, the Bushmen, the Masaai homelands and the game-filled plains of the Serengeti. The country's wildlife parks and reserves are filled with exotic life nature enthusiasts could dream about. Tanzania offers also kilometres of white sand beaches on the legendary island of Zanzibar and other tropical islands.

There are opportunities for big game safaris in great wildlife parks of Serengeti, Masai Mara, Amboseli, Samburu, and Sweetwaters & Northern Tanzania.

By getting on the best safaris in Tanzania, nature lovers can observe the majesty of the traditional Big Five as well as other amazing predators, scavengers and bird life, in the hidden, untouched areas, where very few tourists venture. If you dare you can also take a safari in the dark to observe the nocturnal animal leopard hunts.
