Here we present the world`s biggest mysteries. Humans` search lead to the most amazing experiences, explorations and discoveries.

Explore the mysterious Montains of the Gods in Botswana, Africa!

2006-10-10
Tsodilo Hills in Botswana is also known as the “Mountains of the Gods” and the Bushmen`s sacred place. There are over 4500 rock paintings. This makes Tsodilo one of the highest concentrations of rock art in the world. It is also the first and only World Heritage Site in Botswana.

Botswana is located in the southern part of Africa. Over 17% of Botswana's land area has been set-aside as national parks and game reserves. Great areas of wilderness have been carefully preserved, from the lush green wetland of the Okavango Delta in the north, and to the red desert dunes in the south.

The archaeological record of the mentioned area, Tsodilo Hills, gives a chronological account of human activities and environmental changes over at least 100 000 years. As the tour operator Voices of Ancient describe the adventure of exploring the mysterious site: freeze in a moment in time when you come across paintings of penguins, sharks and whales and you wonder how that possible in a desert landscape. You will see how ancient eastern understandings of energy healing processes were reflected by Bushmen thousands of years ago.

San, or Bushmen, are collectively known as Basarwa in Botswana. The word San means “Person”. The two affected tribes, which at last government count in 2001 came to 1,645 individuals, are called the Gana and the Gwi. Many Bushmen live in Central Kalahari Game Reserve. The Bushmen`s history is recorded through rock painting, folk tales and songs. Both the San and the Hambukushu groups have strong traditional beliefs as regards Tsodilo Hills. To them it is a place of worship and a place where they can reach their ancestral spirits, and both tribes have creation myths associated with Tsodilo.

The company logo is of an ancient Bushmen painting, depicting the transcendental states within the porcupine. You will notice the spikes at the bottom of the feet and the shape of the head is the same as the porcupine. This painting could be observed at Tsodilo Hills. Other sacred places associated with the Bushmen are Ghanzi and Lekhubu Island.

According to the Hambukushu legend these were made when the first cattle descended from the sky and the rocks of the earth were still soft. The San believe that these marks were made by Eland.

Botswana is still quite unexplored and give opportunities for genuine adventure in a wild world. See video clip of the Bushmen in Botswana on the consultancy and tour operator`s Voices of the Ancient`s website: www.voicesofancients.co.bw.
