Photo. South Pole (from Hvitserk`s
website www.Hvitserk.no).
Hvitserk is
specialised on polar expeditions, climbing and trekking on high mountains around
the world. Hvitserk has already guided Norwegians and travellers from other
countries on adventurous expeditions to several exotic areas around the world.
This great adventurous journey will be arranged in November - December next
year.
According to
information on Hvitserk`s website (www.Hvitserk.no), based on
their background it was natural for them to invite to an expedition to the South
Pole. Their aim is to organise a group who goes in to the Pole point (ca. 750
kilometres), and eventually set up a group who is interested in ski sailing out
from the South Pole (ca. 1,000 kilometres). The distance is of course dependent
of the route they choose, so it could be longer, just to let you
know!
Optimal
preparations are necessary. The tour to the polar point is with pulkas.
Participants can expect long, cold days, moving up to 30 kilometres in an
average per day, but the feeling of reaching 90 degrees South is
not so far away as the famous Norwegian Polarer Roald Amundsen
most has felt. As the first person there, he raised the flag on 90 south the 14
December in 1911.

People on tours like this have to be well motivated and willing to
take their part of the efforts, and to work in a team. |

According to one of the founders of Hvitserk, Lars Ebbesen,
does not Hvitserk intend to take with them "supermen"
on this tour, but persons who are well motivated and willing to
take their part of the efforts, and to work in a team. This is necessary because
of hard psychical efforts in the polar areas for two months.
The
participations will be transported by airplane from Norway to
Punta
Arenas in
Chile and so
in to Patriot Hills in Antarctica
. So the group has to stay on
its own. Each participant
has to drag pulkas with necessary equipment and food.
The expedition
member should expect temperature down to 40 degrees below zero. Combined with
ice cold wind, the temperature could in fact be as low as 70 degrees below zero.
The encouragement is that they will ski and sleep in the eternal sun under
Antarctic short summer from November to February.
The interest is so high for
the tour that Hvitserk probably arrange two tours, but the time will show. So
for they who have the time, money and guts, you have to start exercising and
preparations for your tour already now.
